Brijendra Pal Singh or B.P. Singh is an Indian television producer, who owns the Fireworks Productions. He is the creator and director-producer of the Indian TV series C.I.D. (January 1998 to 28 October 2018), the longest running TV series in India.,[1][2] which started CID Gallantry Awards in 2010.[3] Also, he plays an occasional role of DCP Chitrole in CID. He also produced Sony TV's hit horror series Aahat, 1995 to 2015.[4]

A stint in Marathi films and Marathi TV serials, he is an expert in playing the policeman’s roles such as in Ek Shunya Shunya, and CID. At No 5, he demands Rs. 1,00,000 per day. He has won many accolades for his role in CID. He is extremely popular among the youth. There are innumerable CID jokes concerning Shivaji Satam.

On 8 October 2004, a special episode, 'The Inheritance' / C.I.D. 111, to mark the completion of six years of CID, was shot in a single continuous shot for 111 minutes (one hour and 51 minutes), which landed the show in the Limca Book of Records as ‘TV show - longest continual shot’.[5] He is current president of Film and Television Institute of India.

Career[edit]

Singh originally belongs to Dehradun and studied at Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.[6] He started his career working with state TV-channel Doordarshan in 1973 as a news cameraman and went on to handle the camera for another 10 years, before relocating to Mumbai. He made murder mystery TV film for Doordarshan, Sirf Char Din, while preparing for that film, he started visiting the Crime Branch of police, and befriended Inspector Jayant Wagle, and in the process developed a lifelong interest in detective work. He subsequently produced the TV series, Ek Shunya Shunya for Doordarshan in 1980's, before relocating to Mumbai where he made a few Marathi serials for Doordarshan.[7]

The horror series Aahat was first shot in 1994 as a suspense thriller, and it started being aired in 1995, but after about 40 episodes with the same theme, one episode on supernatural theme was made and when TRPs of the series rose sharply, it made the switch.[6]

Turning point in career came with beginning of Sony TV channel, and started shooting C.I.D., started on Sony TV in 1997, about a team of detectives working for the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Mumbai and is still on. He even introduced India's first silent comedy Gutur Gu in 2010.[8] He is also the producer of these two series along with Pradeep Uppoor.

He also started crime show on Life OK named Hum Ne Li Hai - Shapath which is about police inspectors and a social worker. This show was gaining good TRPs and is BP Singh's second crime show .

He has worked with many known artists and is famous for giving breaks to new artists. He was the first to give a break to CanadianactorRemi Clair during his struggling days in Mumbai as main lead in C.I.D. and police inspector in Aahat.

Shivaji Satam (Marathi: शिवाजी साटम; born 21 April 1950) is an Indian television and film actor. A former bank official, he has appeared in many Hindi and Marathi films. He has appeared in films including Vaastav, Ghulam-E-Mustafa, Yeshwant, China Gate, Taxi No. 9211, Nayak, Jis Desh Me Ganga Reheta Hai, Sooryavansham, Hu Tu Tu. In Marathi, he has got recognition through movies like Uttarayan. He is best known for his role as ACP Pradyuman on the popular TV series C.I.D. on SET India.

Early life and career[edit]

Shivaji Satam graduated in Physics and then did a Diploma in Business Administration. He then got a job as a bank cashier in the Central Bank of India. Shivaji is quite fond of theatre, a vocation he pursued while working at the bank. His acting talent is first recognized when he participated in the inter-bank stage competition. Bal Dhuri, the veteran Marathi theatre actor is instrumental for giving a break to Shivaji Satam in the musical drama Sangeet Varad.

Later career[edit]

Shivaji made his screen debut in 1980 in the popular TV series Rishte-Naate. In 1988, he appeared in the series Famous Trials of India. He played a role in the successful Marathi show Ek Shunya Shunya. He then appeared in numerous serials and films and became noted for appearing in the Hindi films Vaastav, Kurukshetra and 100 Days.

Despite acting in so many movies, Shivaji became widely popular for playing ACP Pradyuman in C.I.D.. He has been appearing in C.I.D. since 1998. He has won the best actor award for his role of ACP Pradyuman in the Gold Awards 2012. In late 2013, he planned on working full-time in movies. Due to public demand he is back as ACP Pradyuman in C.I.D. His most famous dialogues in C.I.D. are 'Kuch To Gadbad Hai' (Something is fishy) and 'Daya, Darwaza Tod Do' (Daya, break the door).
